Understanding and Managing Everyday Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal part of being human, but it can become overwhelming. Here are gentle, evidence-based ways to work with it rather than against it.

Anxiety often shows up uninvited — a tight chest before a meeting, a racing mind at 2 a.m., a knot in the stomach you can't quite name. It is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy, and it is also one of the most workable.

Why anxiety happens

At its core, anxiety is your nervous system trying to protect you. The challenge is that it can become miscalibrated, treating ordinary situations as threats. The goal of therapy is not to eliminate anxiety entirely, but to help you relate to it differently.

You are not your anxious thoughts. You are the person noticing them.

Small practices that help

Slowing the exhale, naming what you feel, and gently questioning anxious predictions are all simple starting points. Over time, these practices build a sense of safety and choice.
